Now that we have had our first two storms of the year, it’s a good time to review the items you need to have in your Winter Survival Kit in your car.

Equipment items:

  1. a shovel
  2. windshield scraper and small broom
  3. flashlight with extra batteries
  4. tow chain or rope
  5. road salt, sand, or cat litter for traction
  6. booster cables
  7. emergency flares and reflectors
  8. fluorescent distress flag and whistle to attract attention

Sustenance Items:

  1. water
  2. snack food including energy bars
  3. dried fruit
  4. candy bars
  5. Necessary medications

Miscellaneous items:

  1. matches and small candles
  2. extra hats, socks and mittens
  3. First aid kit
  4. pocket knife or multipurpose tool
  5. blankets or sleeping bag

And most important of all, use good sense and keep your wits about you.  Panic is not productive if you are in a tough spot. And better yet, simply stay home or in a building if you have that choice.
