Does your car insurance cover a rental auto in a foreign country?

Unfortunately, the short answer is probably a resounding NO!  However, with that as a basis, you should examine your policy (not all policies are the same in every respect), and talk to your agent or company to make certain.  If you are told that it is covered, it’s a good idea to get in writing from the agent or company and also pointing out the section where it is covered.

You will most likely need to purchase coverage from the rental company that you are dealing with.  While some credit cards claim to cover the physical damage that you incur to the rental car, you may have a very difficult time getting them to pay.
