Research done by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute shows that distracted drivers are causing an increasing number of vehicle accidents.
Almost 80% of all crashes involve a distracted driver. And texting while driving can increase your risk of being in an accident by 23 times.
Talking, eating and using your cell phone in other ways also significantly increase your risk. In 2012, the most recent year for which statistics are available, there were 412,000 accidents involving distracted drivers. That was up almost 9% from 2011.
The risks are real. Make sure you don’t become one of the statistics.
