Winter driving is the toughest of the year. Here are some tips to stay safe when driving in bad conditions.

  • Inspect your tires for issues with air pressure and tread.  This isn’t the place to save – replace them if they’re worn.
  • Keep your cellphone fully charged and bring it with you, in case of an emergency.
  • Carry a roadside emergency kit.
  • Notify your family or friends of your travel plans and the route you plan to take.
  • Keep plenty of gas in your car at all times.
  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Test your car’s brakes.
  • Check and fill windshield wiper fluid and antifreeze.
  • Inspect windshield wiper blades.
  • For your comfort and safety, make sure the heater and defroster are operating properly.
